Job Description:
The Product and Process Development Engineering Specialist is responsible for providing support to AE Product Development, AE Business Development, R&I, and Divisional Engineering teams, and is focused on the development of products and processes new to Stackpole.
Aside from your manufacturing/engineering experience, we are looking for the following skills:
- Project management – you can keep up with every part of an ongoing project, and can communicate that vision to others in a fast-paced environment to ensure tight deadlines are met.
- Communication – you are good with people, and can write clearly and effectively when creating reports and analyses.
- Analysis – you can use metrics and statistics to figure out when something is working and when it isn’t. You practice good judgment, and use it to improve production whether it involves personnel, equipment, or supplies/materials.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and support to various teams within Stackpole
- Participate in and provide technical support during external and internal design reviews of products and processes.
- Coordinate and champion the manufacture of prototype (pre-production) parts as required.
- Champion the APQP process and maintain the Master Timeline for the development and launching of new and modified products.
- Read, understand and check engineering drawings for tools and manufactured components, including interpretation and measurement of GD&T specifications
- Gather and analyze data from trials to establish new parameters and process conditions to be implemented in production
- Develop test methods and carry out trials to test hypotheses and determine the effects of proposed changes to production parts and processes. Make recommendations based on the analysis of these results
- Create, document and implement new procedures and best practices
- Develop and update Advanced Product Quality Planning documentation when required. These documents include but are not limited to Process Flow Diagrams, Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Control Plan documents, and other process specific documents
- Aid in the troubleshooting of production parts and processes, providing support where needed
- Communicate with customers in a technical capacity to ensure the mutual satisfactory resolution of problems
- Facilitate team efforts involving the setting of goals, problem solving and maintaining timelines to reach company objectives
- Transfer knowledge learned in the pre-production and production part approval stages of development to production staff during and after new program launches
- Identify Continuous improvement initiatives to improve the quality of Stackpole products and to reduce and eliminate waste in the value stream
- Work in compliance with Stackpole Quality and HSE policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduate Engineer or Technologist in a Mechanical, Materials, or Manufacturing discipline.
- At least 2 to 3 years’ experience in high volume manufacturing, preferably in the automotive industry; familiarity with metal forming (mechanical and/or hydraulic pressing), machining, and thermal processing is an asset
- Knowledge and experience in Automotive Quality Systems (IATF/TS16949)
- Must be a hands-on individual (strong mechanical aptitude) with excellent organizational skills.
- Must have good interpersonal skills, very strong verbal and written communication skills, and have previously demonstrated the ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast paced environment.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Statistical Analysis software (Minitab or JMP experience is an asset)
- Working knowledge in the use of Solidworks or other CAD platform (drafting experience is an asset)
- Programming skills (Visual Basic, Python, Matlab) an asset
